Each jar of Dinkins Aquatic Gardens Snacklerock contains about two pounds of live rock rubble which has been cycled with nitrifying bacteria and seeded with live copepods. We ship the rubble completely covered in water, and even add extra copepods to each jar during packaging.
Snacklerock is fully aquacultured and pest-free: we take clean, dry live rock rubble from Marco Rocks and submerge it in a closed, fishless system for at least three months. Nothing ever goes into this system except saltwater, Fritz Turbostart 900, live phytoplankton, live copepods, and trace amounts of lab-grade ammonium chloride (to feed the nitrifying bacteria).
In addition to the biodiversity that already comes on and in your Snacklerock, it also provides an enormous amount of surface area to host additional bacteria, copepods, amphipods, or other microfauna. This is a natural way to increase your tank's carrying capacity for beneficial bacteria, live amphipods, and live copepods.
